The Quintessential S'mores Recipe

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

1 graham cracker

1/4 4.4-ounce milk chocolate bar

2 large marshmallows

Instructions

It's best to make s'mores over medium-low heat, so adjust your fire pit accordingly. If you're using natural wood or charcoal, embers work well.

Begin by carefully breaking your graham cracker into two squares. Place the square of chocolate atop one of the graham crackers and set it aside.

Using a stick or long skewer, pierce the two marshmallows and keep them near one end of the stick. Hold the marshmallows close to the flame, allowing the indirect heat to toast them. Rotate them periodically until they are your preferred shade, whether it's golden or dark. Check them often so that they do not burn.

Once your marshmallows are to your liking, carefully slide them off the stick onto the graham cracker square and use the top square to make a sandwich. If children are toasting the marshmallows with you, you may want to help them with this step.

Let the marshmallows cool a moment before your s'more is ready to enjoy. Feel free to use this recipe as a template and unleash your creativity. You can experiment using different kinds of candy bars, adding peanut butter or banana slices or trying a variety of cookies.
